Lisa Hernandez is a dual-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in healthcare. Her diverse clinical background includes integrative and functional medicine, occupational medicine, women’s health, primary care, and urgent care, all of which inform her comprehensive and
patient-centered approach to mental health treatment.
Lisa earned her Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of Texas at El Paso and completed her post-master’s certification in Psychiatric Mental Health at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She is currently further advancing her expertise through the Functional Psychiatry Fellowship with
Psychiatry Redefined, reflecting her commitment to innovative, root-cause approaches to care.
Lisa treats patients ages 6 and older for a wide range of conditions including ADHD, behavioral concerns, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, sleep disorders, and weight management. She practices using a holistic and integrative model, addressing not only mental health symptoms but also underlying lifestyle factors, medical conditions, and nutrition.
When appropriate, she incorporates a functional medicine approach to help patients better understand and optimize their overall health. Known for her warm, relatable, and collaborative style, Lisa prioritizes building strong therapeutic relationships where patients feel heard, supported, and genuinely cared for. She believes patients are the experts of their own experiences and works alongside them to develop individualized, effective treatment plans. Her approach emphasizes education, empowerment, and shared decision-making, with a commitment to exploring all safe, ethical, and evidence-based options to help patients achieve meaningful and lasting improvement.
Having personally navigated the healthcare system, Lisa understands how it feels to be dismissed or unheard. This perspective deeply shapes her practice, as she strives to provide a different experience—one grounded in respect, validation, and hope for healing.
Outside of work, Lisa is a proud mother to her adult daughter, who recently graduated from Georgia State and is pursuing her dreams, and to her Aussiedoodle, Moose. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crafting, painting, and attempting to keep her plants alive. Lisa provides telehealth services to patients across Texas ages 6 and older.
